Tuproqning sho'rlanishi o'simliklarning rivojlanishiga eng salbiy ta'sir ko'rsatadigan va yerning degradatsiyasiga olib keladigan omillardan biridir. Hisob-kitoblarga ko‘ra, O‘rta er dengizi mintaqasida sug‘oriladigan qishloq xo‘jaligi erlarining qariyb 25 foizi sho‘rlanishdan zarar ko‘radi, bu esa tuproqning degradatsiyasiga olib keladi va natijada potentsial sof birlamchi mahsuldorlikni pasaytiradi va cho‘llanishni tezlashtiradi . So‘nggi yillarda Orolbo‘yi hududlaridagi ekologik muammolar yanada keskinlashdi, bu esa o‘z navbatida tirik organizmlarga, xususan, odamlar, hayvonlar va o‘simliklarga salbiy ta’sir ko‘rsatmoqda. Ma’lumki, ushbu muammolar hududi yildan-yilga kengayib bormoqda va qo‘shni mamlakatlar hududlarida katta yo‘qotishlarga olib kelmoqda. Orol dengizi hududlarini ko‘kalamzorlashtirish orqali kelib chiqayotgan salbiy holatlarni kamaytirish maqsadida ilmiy asoslangan tadqiqotlar olib borish nihoyatda muhim hisoblanadi.
