This article analyzes the psychological content of the concept of thinking, its main features, stages of formation and factors affecting its development. Based on the theoretical views of such major scientists as Piyaje and Vygotsky on the development of thinking, the connection of thinking with biological and socio-cultural factors is covered. The types of thinking, their role in human-specific thinking activities and their importance in modern education are also mentioned. The article can be useful for specialists in the field of psychology, pedagogy and education.
