Tadqiqotning asosiy maqsadi GMO mahsulotlarining inson hayotiga ta’sirini ilmiy nuqtai nazardan o‘rganishdir. Bu o‘rganish GMO mahsulotlarining qishloq xo‘jaligi samaradorligini oshirishdagi ahamiyati, ularning inson salomatligiga bo‘lgan ta’siri, ekologik xavf-xatarlar va ijtimoiy-iqtisodiy oqibatlarini tahlil qilishni o‘z ichiga oladi. Shuningdek, GMO mahsulotlarining kelajakdagi istiqbollari va bu mahsulotlarning jahon oziq-ovqat xavfsizligi tizimidagi roli ham tadqiqotda ko‘rib chiqiladi Bugungi kunda GMO mahsulotlari oziq-ovqat sanoatining ajralmas qismiga aylanib bormoqda. Aholi sonining oshishi va tabiiy resurslarning cheklanganligi sababli, yuqori hosil olishga qaratilgan GMO mahsulotlariga talab ortmoqda. Ushbu mahsulotlar nafaqat qishloq xo‘jaligini samarali boshqarish imkonini beradi, balki oziq-ovqat ta’minotini yaxshilashga ham yordam beradi.
